Little Big Horn Fur Company ChroniclesWinter 1999 - 2000

In Tribute

The Little Big Horn chapter of the Frontiersman Camping Fellowship has lost one of its own. September 13, 1999 Rich Roybal drowned while fishing the Missouri River near Helena. Rich loved fishing. He enjoyed being in the outdoors.

A fixture at Ranger Mountain, Rich was at every Pow Wow held in Montana. He would head up several days early in order to prepare Outpost 31’s campsite for the arrival of the boys.

Rich served his country in the Army for three years. During that time he did a fourteen-month tour of duty in Vietnam.

Rich served his Savior for 36 years, in Royal Rangers for 27 years. He served in several capacities, including senior commander for Outpost 31. He loved the boys.

Rich was also on district staff as Training Coordinator. He spent countless hours traveling to various Montana towns helping establish Royal Ranger outposts.

Outside of Rangers Rich also sang in the choir, hosted home Bible fellowships, taught Sunday school and served as treasurer of the deacon board at Helena First Assembly.

Next to Jesus, Rich most loved his wife, Judy. More than one person has commented that Rich was never heard to make anything even approaching a negative comment about his wife. He also loved his sons, Tony and Roger and did his best to raise them up in the Lord.

Rich’s smile was ever present and infectious. No one ever felt unwelcome around Rich.

He was laid to rest with full honors. Rich was 55. He is sorely missed.
