The following is a true story that happened to one man but the message is for everyone.
One night a man had a dream. In his dream he was standing with many others in a field surrounded by trees when the rapture of the church occurred. As he watched people he knew and loved lift skyward he noticed he was not rising as well. He tried jumping up but would rise only so far before settling back to the earth. Next he tried jumping and flapping his arms but had only a little more success then again settled to the earth. Finally the man flapped with all his might and managed to rise above the trees. Soon, however, he grew weary and finally fell into some dead trees on the edge of the field.
The morning after the disturbing dream the man went about his life as usual, determined not to let it bother him. He’d been faithfully attending church for several years. What more was needed?
A week later the man had another dream. It was similar to the first only this time he was viewing the rapture through a veil of flames. As the people in the field began to rise to Heaven, the man noticed three in the field who, like himself in the earlier dream, could not rise with the others. Try as they might with jumping and arm flapping the three could not take off. For some reason this disturbed the man greatly.
Then the scene in his dream zoomed in on the three in the field and the man realized why he was so disturbed that they were not also caught up in the rapture. They were his own three children!
Broken before the Lord, the man repented of his sin and vowed not to play games with his salvation, not to play at church but commit his life to the Savior.
Let us not be so cavalier about our salvation. The Spirit knows the condition of each of our souls. He sees our hearts. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) The man’s best works simply could not overcome his weight of sin and he fell short. More than that, what broke his heart was when he realized the eternal consequences his example of sin had for his children.
How is the state of your soul? Are you playing at Christianity? Is your
relationship with Christ dry? Are you in rebellion against God? Have you
received Christ in the first place? You have an influence upon all the
lives you touch. Is it a godly influence? Are you submitted to Jesus?
